Emergency Mortgage Assistance

     The Fair Housing Center, through a grant from the Office of Housing and Community Partnerships at the Ohio Department of Development, can offer free emergency mortgage assistance (including escrowed taxes and insurance) for up to three months back payments if you meet the following criteria:

  • Your loan has predatory terms (high interest rate, over-inflated value, pre-payment penalty, etc.)
  • You are at or below 50% of the Area Median Income (see chart below for income guidelines)
  • Your home is owner-occupied
  • Your home is in Lucas County
  • You can prove that once you receive assistance, you are able to resume and maintain your mortgage payments
  • You commit to 24 months of free Financial Counseling Services, including a class on Successful Money Management (provided at no cost to you)

     Assistance is limited to three months of back payments (including escrowed taxes and insurance). A maximum of $2,100 per household may be offered. For more information contact Jamela Temple at

To apply for our loan remediation programs (refinancing and grant) you are required to attend two meetings (parts I & II) for program orientation and to give us some necessary information and documents. The meeting schedule is posted below; however you must call 243-6163 and ask for intake to register for the classes. There will be no charge for the meetings. All of the classes are on Mondays from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at 2127 Jefferson Street (EMS training center), parking is free.
